What Are The Impacts On The Environment?
There are many economic decisions that impact the environment both good and bad. Shoe manufacturing burns toxins, chemicals and fossil fuels, these things can leak into the environment and can harm any wild life that comes across it. Also burning fossil fuels creates carbon dioxide which goes into our air, polluting and contributing to the greenhouse effect. This is an economic decision because it saves time and money because fossil fuels are cheap to buy and easy to burn. Many people chop down rubber trees to make the rubber sole of a shoe. This usually leads to deforestation. This is also a bad environmental impact because then we don't have clean air to breathe. When shoes are disposed of, they are put in landfill. The shoes that are in landfill can eventually contaminate water, soil and plants because the chemicals used in the manufacturing process can leak out as the shoe slowly decomposes. If wildlife eats the contaminated plants or drinks the contaminated water, they can have health problems. The economic decision the shoe industry makes is choosing to use these cheap chemicals in order to save money.
